PRINCIPAL CONDUCTOR OF THE BEAUCHAMP SINFONIETTA (1972-1979)

The Beauchamp Sinfonietta was formed in 1971 by Brian Brown (Leader) and Peter Chadwick (Orchestral Manager) arising from ad hoc orchestras that played for local choral and operatic societies. It was intended to have guest conductors for orchestral concerts, however, a more stable arrangement became considered advisable and I was invited to become Principal Conductor, to conduct most orchestral concerts, amounting to six pairs of concerts a year. In the years I worked with the Beauchamp, in addition to conducting operatic performances with the Leamington Spa Opera Group, I devised and conducted a wide range of concerts, including single composer concerts by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Gershwin and the Strauss Family.
