In the academic year 2005-6, five long-term members of the Warwick Mathematics Education Research Centre moved on: David Tall and Eddie Gray retired, Adrian Simpson became the Principal of Butler College Durham, Janet Ainley became a professor and subsequently Head of Education at Leicester, David Pratt became Professor at the Institute of Education, London. On 17th December 2007, those who remained, and a few friends, attended the official inauguration of a bench outside the new Education Lecture Building, to celebrate the careers of David Tall and Eddie Gray. At the same time, the last members of the old Science Education Department were to leave the Science Education Building for it to be torn down and replaced. It is the end of an era in which the Warwick Mathematics Education Research Centre became renowned throughout the international community for the pioneering work of four successive directors: Richard Skemp, Rolph Schwarzenberger, David Tall, Eddie Gray.
